FREE Brighton gig as Hanya launch EP at Rialto
Hanya

Well this is jolly nice to find out about a free concert in a venue that we absolutely love. This Sunday 25th November, Hanya will be playing a set for the launch of their debut EP entitled ‘I Used To Love You, Now I Don’t’ released on Leisure Records tomorrow (Friday 23rd November).

This will take place a stone’s throw away from the Clock Tower in town at the wonderful Rialto Theatre located at 11 Dyke Road, Brighton, BN1 3FE from around 8pm. Also appearing on the bill will be Zooz and Blush.

Hanya who were conceived above LazerZone in Brighton and was the brainchild of guitar/vocalist Heather (Hev) and drummer Jack Watkins. These guys specialise in belting out vocals of late 60’s/early 70’s style garage rock meets shoegaze, recalling Angel Olsen or PJ Harvey, Heather’s vocals can go from grit to honey, weaving extra layers and emotion into the band’s simple set up.

“Brighton’s most exciting two-piece do it again with their atmospheric take on garage rock. The grit, energy and crunching guitar of the chorus seems at odds with the spacey, shimmering verses, but vocalist Heather handles both with ease, switching between her beautiful, soulful tone and a snarl in a split second.” – Bristol Live Magazine.

“This duo are exponents of introspective lyrics and stark musicality” God is in the TV Zine.

“Brighton’s Grunge-Shoegazing duo Post-Heather were a surprise hit at last year’s Alternative Escape, and this year they’re back for more! Their ability to mix a Riot Grrrl sensibility, introspective lyrics, and hypnotic drone-y guitars makes them greater than the sum of their parts. Rumour has it that they’ve spent the winter writing their debut album, and this set will be full of future classics.” – Drowned in Sound.

Zooz

Zooz are a quartet made up of Kieron Johnston, Michael Dent, Chris Jones and Cameron Black and hail from London. Forming after a transatlantic romance gone wrong, the band explore the hazy, dreamy sounds that perfectly soundtrack such an event. Having released their debut EP ‘Surf In Stereo‘ in 2015, followed by their ‘Stupid & Dirty’/’Holiday From The Norm’ single three months later, the four-piece are hopefully set to return with some new material and a desire to make you say “yeah, they were pretty good actually.”

Blush live in Brighton 14.10.18 (pic Nick Linazasoro)

Brighton based dreampop trio Blush are made up of Asya Fairchild (vocals and bass/guitar), Kieren Taylor-Dixon on guitar/bass) and Joe Klose (drums). Asya also plays live as a member of Bella Union boss Simon Raymonde’s up-and-coming outfit, Lost Horizons. Their live set has elements of The Sundays meets the Cocteau Twins hidden within parts of their repertoire along with hints of haunting folk music. One of their tunes is soon to be recorded with Jack from now Brighton based Penelope Isles, who incidentally were recently announced as one of the first 50 Great Escape acts for the 2019 lineup.

So head on down to the Rialto Theatre on Sunday 25th November as the event is totally free.
