A woman died after entering the sea yesterday evening (Monday 13 October).
She was brought ashore after a search by coastguard, lifeboat crew and police over several hours.
The coastguard dispatched the volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew at Brighton and both lifeboats from Shoreham between 7.45pm and shortly after 9pm.
A coastguard helicopter crew searched from the air and police worked on the shore.
A woman in her fifties was pulled from the sea off Hove but when she was brought ashore, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sussex Police does not believe that she died as the result of suspicious circumstances.
The case will be referred to the coroner.
