Man, 64, in hospital after hit and run

Brunswick Place, Hove

A man has died and two more have been arrested after an incident in the early hours of the morning.

Police cordoned off a section of the pavement outside Brunswick Place this morning.

Reports on social media say a man was seen lifeless on the pavement at about 3am this morning.

Another man was taken away in handcuffs.

Sussex Police said: “In the early hours of Monday morning (January 22), emergency services responded to a report of a person falling from height in Brunswick Place, Hove.

“A man aged 52 was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

“Two men, aged 74 and 53, have been arrested in connection with the death, and they are assisting with police enquiries.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while further enquiries are undertaken.

“Witnesses or anyone with information about what happened is asked to report it to Sussex Police online or call 101, quoting Operation Marsworth.”

The Western Rd area is more like the wild west. Witnessed a v violent scene, just next to the Mad Hatter cafe as two men were beating seven bells out of another lying against a car. Truly awful and just another example of how unpleasant and shabby this area is becoming with numerous incidents of drugs related stabbings.

I’m afraid the council keep on housing junkies and people with anti-social behaviour problems in the town centre. Brunswick Place has a prison release hostel and a sex offenders release hostel and St Patrick’s is also almost next door. That’s before you get into Regency Square. I find it bizarre that the council concentrates these type of people in areas where housing is premium priced and where they just create a nightmare for residents and business owners. Other councils try to look after town centres to encourage investment and tourism not do what they can to make it look worse. You only have to read the comments in national newspapers to see how much people think the city has deteriorated. People just say it looked so nice 20 years ago and now it just looks a dump. I wish we had a council that actually cared about the local economy and the safety of tourists and residents. This death incidentally was outside the prison bail hostel.

Unfortunately, the centralisation of services are in central Brighton, and a NIMBY argument doesn’t hold much away. Should try working in the sector for a bit, you would have a lot to learn about the kind of lives these people have lived. I considered myself quite unprejudiced, and even I found myself needing to reflect on my own, incorrect, biases.

Brighton is nowhere near as bad as other places from my experiences, however, antisocial behaviours are generally a product of social insecurity.

Brighton has truly become a dump.
Violence, filthy streets, intimidating people begging, drug paraphernalia……and that’s just for starters.
The council only have one aim and that’s screw as much money out of the residence, visitors, motorists and businesses as possible and waste it on total nonsense like the i360. l used to be proud of my city now I’m ashamed.

Begging and people sleeping rough are a symptom of a much larger austerity issue. Unfortunately, these bring antisocial behaviours with them. The first step to a solution is a new government.

If you think a new government is the answer then you’re nieve and you need to get out more.
